ASCS Northern Plains Tackles I-90 Speedway Tuesday Night

TULSA, Okla. (August 11, 2006) -- Entering the championship stretch run, the American Sprint Car Series Northern Plains Region makes its third and final stop of the season at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD, on Tuesday night, August 15.

The high-banked, 3/8-mile I-90 Speedway dirt oval has hosted ASCS Northern Plains Region fields of 41 and 34 entries thus far in 2006, with Jason Johnson taking victory honors on June 13 and current series point leader Chuck Swenson victorious on July 18.

With just five events remaining, Watertown, SD, shoe Swenson carries a 305-point advantage over 18-year-old Lee Grosz of Harwood, ND, in the championship points race into the Tuesday night special.

Grosz has the second position by just 40 markers over Sioux Falls, SD, shoe Eric Lutz, with Curt Lund of Redwood Falls, MN, and Dusty Ballenger of Harrisburg, SD, rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Northern Plains Region points includes Jake Peters (Sioux Falls, SD), Dustin Lindquist (Floodwood, MN), Brett Geldner (St. Peter, MN), Gregg Bakker (Sioux Falls, SD) and 16-year-old Mike Sitzmann, Jr. (Tappen, ND).

Tuesday's racing action is slated to get under way at 8:00 p.m.

In its first year of action, the all-new ASCS Northern Plains Region has a full slate of 21 events at ten different tracks throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
