Lightning Strikes ASCS Midwest Region at US 36
CAMERON, Mo. (September 9, 2005) -- Johnny "Lightning" Anderson struck for his first career American Sprint Car Series feature triumph by topping Friday night's 25-lap season finale for the ASCS Midwest Region at US 36 Raceway.
While Anderson reeled in his first ASCS win, it was Lincoln, Nebraska's Billy Alley securing the inaugural ASCS Midwest Region championship by driving March Burch's No. 1m entry from the eleventh starting slot to finish sixth.
After winning his heat race, Anderson led the feature field to the green flag and gunned into the lead at the outset. Action was interrupted after just four rounds when Frankie Heimbaugh took a nasty flip.JHeimbaugh was transported to a local hospital for observation.
Seeking a fourth ASCS Midwest Region feature win, Brian Brown made a late bid for the lead, but Anderson was up to the task and took the checkered flag aboard the Ostrich-powered T&A Tools/Miller Electric No. 7a Eagle.
Brown settled for second, with Todd Frisbie claiming the show position.JKerry Grabill crossed the stripe fourth, with Jim Cameron rounding out the top five.
Alley earned the series crown by finishing sixth, with Jon Corbin in seventh. Toby Chapman sewed up runner-up honors in ASCS Midwest Region points by crossing the stripe eighth, with 14th-starter Jesse Hockett and Rick Ideus completing the top ten.
Frisbee, Anderson and Corbin each claimed heat race victories.
