ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 7/21/04 - "We haven't been real good hear lately. We keep working at it...keep plugging away, and we got the job done tonight."

Those were the first words of defending track champ Lance Dewease after claiming his fourth Lincoln win of the year in the $3,000-to-win Mid-Summer Championship for 410 sprint cars Wednesday night.

And it was probably the understatement of the year.

Dewease dominated from the pole position, lapping all but six cars in scoring his 26th career Lincoln win. He also picked up a $200 bonus from Premier Auto Works and Auto Locator, sponsors of the championship event.

"We haven't been timing real good. At least we picked that up (fourth fastest) tonight," said Dewease, "We were pretty decent in the heat race and we were pretty decent in the feature. We'll take it and move on."

It was the second of 13 straight nights of racing for Dewease, who gave a plug for the Pennsylvania Posse leading into the Thursday through Saturday Summer Nationals at Williams Grove.

Cris Eash, who has been struggling at Lincoln, got around Brian Leppo on the opening lap and ran runner-up to Dewease the entire way, crossing 3.44 seconds behind Dewease at the finish after 26 consecutive non-stop laps of racing. Third was sixth-starting Greg Hodnett, with eighth-starting Fred Rahmer fourth and Eric Stambaugh fifth. Stambaugh was challenging Eash for second on the 18th lap when he began to fade with a suspected tire problem. Niki Young was credited with sixth after Brian Leppo hit the restart cone on lap five and was placed last on the lead lap (seventh). Eighth through tenth a lap down were Brook Weibley, Keith Kauffman, and Doug Esh.

410 sprint heats were won by Keith Kauffman, Fred Rahmer and Doug Esh. Stambaugh set fast time over the 22-car super sprint field with a one-lap time of 13.763 seconds.

Mt. Wolf's Adrian Shaffer piloted the Lebo Motorsports #4B to victory in the 25-lap, $2,000-to-win Mid-Summer Championship for the 358 sprinters sponsored by Trone Outdoor Advertising and York PB Truss, Inc.

Shaffer started on the pole by virtue of the six-car inversion which placed fast timer Alan Krimes in sixth. Though he led every lap, he had to start beside Eric Stambaugh, and then outrun him on several occasions. At one point (lap 16), Stambaugh slid in front of Shaffer for the race lead exiting turn two, but third-place Dave Neuman spun exiting the same turn seconds later. That put Shaffer back in front for the restart, and after that, Stambaugh was busy holding off Billy Dietrich for second.

Shaffer took the checkered 1.4 seconds ahead of Stambaugh, with Dietrich third, two-time defending champ Cory Haas fourth, and Blane Heimbach coming back from a heat crash to win the consi and cross fifth. Sixth through tenth were T.J. Stutts, current point leader Chad Trout, fast time trialer Alan Krimes, Billy Johns, and Brad McClelland.

Heats for the "358" sprints were won by McClelland, Stutts, Haas and Dave Neuman. Heimbach won the consolation. Krimes set fast time over the 41-car 358 sprint field with a one-lap time of 14.895 seconds.

Lincoln Speedway will be dark this Saturday night, July 24th.

Lincoln swings back into action the following Saturday night, July 31st with MANHEIM AUTO AUCTION NIGHT. The 410 sprint and thundercar regulars will be joined by the Silver Spring Street Stocks who will race in a special match race that will pit the top-five finishers in both the thundercars and street stock feature in a special match race.

Gates will open at 5:30 PM with green flag racing beginning at 7:30 PM.
