Steve Kinser named National 410 Sprint Car Poll "Driver of the Year" for 2003
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (December 4, 2003) - Steve Kinser of Bloomington, Indiana, was voted the 2003 "Driver of the Year" by the National 410 Sprint Car Poll voting panel of media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and manufacturers. The World of Outlaws (WoO) point champion earned twenty-eight (28) of the thirty (30) first place ballots cast in the year-end poll. Greg Hodnett and Donny Schatz garnered one first place vote each. Steve Kinser also received the "Team of the Year" honors.
Those drivers ranked second through fifth, respectively, are Danny Lasoski of Missouri, Greg Hodnett of Tennessee, Donny Schatz of North Dakota, and Joey Saldana of Indiana. Rounding out the 'top ten' for the season are Daryn Pittman, Williams Grove and Lincoln track champion Lance Dewease, All Star Circuit of Champions (ASCoC) titlist Chad Kemenah, Jason Meyers, and Knoxville Raceway champion Terry McCarl, respectively.
Erin Crocker of Massachusetts earned the National 410 Sprint Car Poll's "Rookie of the Year" honors, primarily on the strength of her accomplishment of being the first female in the 43-year history of the Knoxville Nationals to make the national championship "A" Main-- in her first week in a 410-powered sprint car! Her exciting sprint car performances that entire Auto Trader Southern Iowa Sprintweek, and for the remainder of the 2003 season, also earned her the "Wild Card Award". Knoxville Raceway director Ralph Capitani again claimed the "Promoter of the Year" title.
Brian and Jeannie Butler of ButlerBuilt Seats received the "Builder/Manufacturer of the Year" award, while Doug Auld of "Sprint Car & Midget" magazine earned the "Media Member of the Year" honors.
The National 410 Sprint Car Poll is an annual awards program of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum Foundation, Inc., of Knoxville, Iowa.
