BLOOMINGTON'S KELLY KINSER HEADS PENNZOIL CUP POINT STANDINGS
BLOOMINGTON, IN (June 23, 1998) - With two complete racing programs on the books, and a rain shortened partial event that awarded limited points, Kelly Kinser continues to lead Bloomington Speedway's Pennzoil Cup sprint car series. Kinser won the first feature race of the season on May 29, and was awarded "show-up" points on June 12, when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws event was rained out. This situation has also benefited Bob Burkle, Kevin Huntley, Larry Bland, Jeremy Minton, Randy Kinser and Mike Bowling.
Brad Fox won the non-winged sprint feature last Friday at Bloomington, and heads the drivers who did not compete in the winged sprint car show. By setting fast time, and winning his heat race, Fox scored the maximum number of points available on any single night at the Speedway. This earned him ninth place in the points standings. Bloomington's Scott Hamilton is seventh, having raced both the May event and last Friday.
Albert Webb's victory on Friday propelled him into the point lead in the open wheel modified division. Combined with a fifth place finish in the first race, Webb is a dozen points ahead of Sonny Richardson. Richardson improved from his opening night twelfth place finish to third last Friday.
It's not surprising that Cory Brown, Gerald Todd and Perry Bruce head the point standings in the WalMart Tire & Lube Express Street Stock division. Bloomington racing veteran Brown has a five point advantage over Todd, on the strength of finishing second in both the events run, and winning heat races both nights. Todd and Bruce have scored main event wins, but find themselves chasing Brown.
Friday, June 26, Bloomington Speedway will present non-winged sprint cars competing for the Pennzoil Cup, joined by the open wheel modifieds and the WalMart Tire & Lube Express street stocks. Plus, motorcycle daredevil Mr. Backwards will attempt to clear four cars on a Harley. It is HARF Night, HARF members are admitted for half price. The pit gate opens at 4:30, and the grandstand gates at 5:30 pm. Hot laps begin at 6:00, with racing at 7:45. General admission is just $10, with all fans ages 12 and under admitted FREE, when accompanied by an adult. Pit admission is $20.
