Florida Sprint Car Association Goodyear Outlaw Series: Lee Scrape managed to hold off his father, Otto Scrape, to claim his second victory of the 2001 season at Jax Raceways in Jacksonville, Fla.

The elder Scrape narrowly held on to second place after holding off the charging Scott Boyles, who finished third. Mike Love was fourth and Steve Stone took fifth.

Lee Scrape won the Goodyear Dash for Cash prior to the main event on the half-mile clay oval.

The event allowed a look into the future for sprint car racing as Tighe Schloss, a 14-year-old racing veteran, made his Goodyear Outlaw Series debut. Schloss finished sixth.

** USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series: Bill Plemons claimed his first career Series victory when he won the Naturally Fresh Foods 200 at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Conn. The event marked the first Hooters Pro Cup Series race in the state.

Brian Vickers finished second to Plemons by just 0.31 of a second. Philip Rondeau was third, Jeff Agnew finished fourth and Jason McLellan came in fifth.

Plemons averaged 103.11 mph in the 200-lap chase around the 5/8-mile banked oval. He led 158 laps, including the final 62.

Regan Smith won the Sunoco pole Award.

Mardy Lindley now leads the Northern Division standings with 265 points. Plemons is second with 258.

** Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring: Craig Raudman, who has never won the Series championship but who has long been one of the fastest drivers on the West Coast, won the Star Nursery 250. The event was a 250-lap chase around the 3/8-mile Bullring on the grounds of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Eddy McKean finished second to Raudman, Mark Reed was third, John Baker finished fourth and Nick Joanides came home fifth.

M.K. Kanke held on to his lead in the championship standings, despite finishing 16th at The Bullring.

Four races into the season, Kanke leads second-place Darrell LaMoure 645-550.

** American LeMans Series: In preparation for the 24 Hours of LeMans endurance racing classic this summer, 10 cars using Goodyear tires participated in a test session for race entrants at the venue.

The test is an important event, as it is the only chance to practice on the complete circuit before the week of the event. Part of the LeMans track includes public roads.

Goodyear cars looked very fast during the test. The Reynard-Judd entry from Dick Barbour Racing was the fastest car in the LMP 675 class and the Speedlab Saleen team was quickest among the GTS cars.

Team Corvette, which won the 24 Hours of Daytona earlier this season, also participated in the test.
