Solwold early Northern Sprint Tour points leader.
The "hy-per-lube Northern Sprint Tour" has kicked off it's seventh year of bringing the best in wheel banging, dirt throwing, sideways wing to wing Sprint Car racing action to the fans of the great Pacific Northwest and Burlington, WA driver Jason Solwold leads the title race after two events with a total of 160 points.
Solwold, the 1998 series champion finished the 2001 season in third place and is heading into the current season with a feature event win and a third place finish to lead the pack in the points race. Again teamed with the Huson Bros. Racing Team, he is sure to be a top choice for another championship.
Sedro Woolley, WA's Chad Hillier sits in second place with 148 points. Hillier, who chased and won a track championship last year, finished the 2000 NST season in 6th place.
Barry Martinez, of Lynnwood, WA, is in his third year of racing with the hy-per-lube Northern Sprint Tour. Currently in third with 140 points, Martinez finished 9th in 2000 and 6th in 2001.
Defending champion Roger Crockett sits in fourth place with 134 points. Crockett, who moved from Rio Linda, CA to Eugene, OR to be based closer to his car owner, finished a strong second just .024 seconds behind last Saturday's winner and will be a threat to be a repeat champion.
Ladysmith, BC veteran driver Todd Heikes holds down fifth place as he trails Crockett by only 2 points at 132. Heikes, originally from Lake Stevens, WA, saw his best Northern Sprint Tour season in 1998 when he finished in 5th place.
Following the top five spots at this time are 1997 NST champ Rick Fauver of Everett, WA with 120 points in sixth, fellow Everett driver Jayme Barnes has 111 points for seventh and Cottage Grove, OR hot shoe and multi champion Dale Smith is in eight holding 95 points.
Filling out the top ten, it is Travis Hawthorne of Everett, WA with 81 points in 9th and Central Point, OR veteran Bill Nutter trailing in tenth by one point with 80 points.
Action in the 2002 hy-per-lube Northern Sprint Tour will resume on Friday, May 24th at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, OR and then travel to Southern Oregon Speedway in Medford, OR on Saturday the 25th.
