Port Royal, PA The roar of racing engines will return to the air at Port Royal Speedway during the month of March.Bug Day, an open practice session, opens the speedway Saturday afternoon March 23. Race cars from any area speedway may participate. Track time will be given to all type cars and is not limited to just local divisions. Past years have found Modifieds, Vintage Stocks Cars, Sprint Cars, Late Models, Pro Stocks, and Antique race cars on hand. Persons entering the pit area must purchase a pit pass. The speedway will operate from 1-5 PM.

The season opener for racing comes one week later on March 30. The daylight program starts at 1 PM with gates opening at 11 AM. Scheduled to compete are the Aumiller's Insurance Sprint Cars and Pro Stocks. Kids will want to come early as an Easter Egg Hunt will be staged in the speedway infield prior to the show.

April racing includes three nights of racing that feature Port Royals regular racing divisions. April 6, 13 & 20 include the Sprint Cars, Late Models and Pro Stocks. April 27 finds Ted Johnson's World of Outlaws support series at Port Royal for the first of two shows. The Enduro division is back at Port Royal this season and join the Outlaw program. In all five Enduro events are planned.

May action includes Sprint Cars, Late Models and Pro Stocks on the 4th, 11th, & 18th.Late Models will draw for starting spots on the 4th & 18th. May 11 action features a Ladies Night promotion. More details will be released on Ladies Night at a later date. Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks and Enduro Cars close the month on May 25.

June has at least five dates scheduled with the possibility of an additional date being added later. The Late Models run a 25 lap championship June 1. They will draw for starting spots. Sprint cars and Pro Stocks are also scheduled. June 8 action includes Sprint Cars, Late Models and Pro Stocks. The years first week night show is set for Thursday June 13 when the Comdial Sprint Car Series visits Port Royal. York County Racing Club comes to the Juniata County oval June 15. Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks and Enduro cars are on hand. YCRC members receive a two dollar discount on general admission tickets by showing their membership cards. One of the years biggest nights is June 22 when Kids Night 6 is on tap. A regular three division racing show is scheduled. Thousands of dollars worth of prizes will be given to area youth. The track has no racing June 29, but that could change and other details will be made public later.

PA Sprint Car Speedweeks kicks off Port Royal's July schedule on the 6th. Other July action includes Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks and Enduro Cars July 13. The years second Thursday night race is on the 18th when the Sprint Cars are joined by the Silver Springs Super Sportsman cars. Action returns two nights later on July 20 when the Sprint Cars, Late Models and Pro Stocks again compete. Late Models will draw for positions. The track will be dark Saturday night July 27 in preparation of the return of the Pennzoil World of Outlaws. Ted Johnson's top class returns for their second year in a row on this special Sunday night July 28.

August action has Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks and Enduro cars on the 3rd. Sprint Cars will draw for starting spots August 10. The Late Models and Pro Stocks are also included. The Auto Racing club of Hagerstown visits August 17. Members receive a two dollar discount on general admission tickets. The night also includes a bicycle giveaway night organized by speedway announcer Tom Little. Kids have received a lot of new bikes over the past several years in this popular promotion. The Late Models run their Hub City qualifier which guarantees the winner a starting spot in the Hagerstown Speedway Hub City Open held late in the season. The Sprint Cars and Pro Stocks are also on the card. The Outlaw support series returns for the second time of the year on August 22. The event is the final Thursday night show of the season. Sprint Car fans will get their fill with a 30 lap championship just two nights later. Sprint Cars will draw for starting spots. The Late Models and Pro Stocks are included.

The final month of racing starts September 2 with the 52nd Annual Labor Day Classic for Sprint Cars & Pro Stocks. Race time is 1 PM. The preliminary events for the 35th Annual Tuscarora 50 for Sprint Cars is set for Friday night September 6. The Late Models will also be on the event. The Tuscarora 50 is one night later on September 7.

The entire revised schedule has been posted on Port Royal Speedways web site. Interested persons may log on to www.portroyalspeedway.com for more details. Speedway officials continue to work on the schedule and other promotional items will be announced in coming weeks.

The Marketing staff led by Sue Pontius head off to the upcoming York Dirttrackin show next weekend. The speedway again joins forces with the American Dairy Association/Dairy Council/Middle Atlantic to promote dairy products and the Port Royal Speedway at these shows.
