ASCS Gulf South Set for Texas Double
TULSA, Okla. (July 10, 2007) -- Plagued by rain over the first half of the season, the American Sprint Car Series will try to return to action this weekend with a pair of events in Texas.
On Friday night, the ASCS Gulf South Region takes to Waco's Heart O' Texas Speedway for the Fourth Annual Gordon Woolley Classis. Then on Saturday night, the series moves on to the Gator Motorplex in Willis, TX, for the Texas vs. Louisiana Shootout.
With six of the series opening ten events washed out by rain thus far, Brandon Berryman of Missouri City, TX, holds a slim lead in series points with four events in the books.
Berryman holds a four-point lead over Skip Wilson of Mesquite, TX, with Johnny Miller of Burleson, TX, just another eight points back in third.JDefending series champion Gary Watson of Beaumont, TX, is fourth, just 28 points off the lead pace, with past series champion Ray Allen Kulhanek of Conroe, TX, just four more points back in fifth.
The balance of the current top ten includes Jimmy Brooks (College Station, TX), Greg Rilat (Texas City, TX), Chris Sweeney (Channelview, TX), Kent Lewis, Jr. (Willis, TX) and Tommy Bryant (Montgomery, TX).
Other top Gulf South contenders expected for the weekend include Richard Holt, Lane Whittington, Larry Hartwell, Jamie Will and 16-year-old Kathryne Minter.
Friday's action at Heart O' Texas Speedway fires off at 8:00 p.m., with Saturday's card at Gator Motorlpex going green at 7:00 p.m.

Following the early season rainouts, the 2007 slate for the ASCS Gulf South Region now consists of 17 events at nine different tracks throughout Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
