TULSA, Okla. (January 17, 2003) - After a successful first season in 2002, the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region is gearing up for 2003, with fifteen point events slated for this season. Also, the top contenders on the ASCS Gulf South trail will be invited to participate for the first time in the Brodix Tournament of Champions at Knoxville Raceway on August 9-10.
The 2003 ASCS Gulf South season will kick off on March 8 at Baton Rouge Raceway, an event that will be run in conjunction with the O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores national tour. Several other events, including two each at New Leesville (LA) 171 Speedway and Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA, and one apiece at Devil's Bowl Speedway and Fast Track Motorplex in Haughton, LA, will also be run with the national tour.
Also featured on the 2003 ASCS Gulf South Region schedule will be the first annual ASCS Gulf South vs. Sooner Region Shootout, to be held at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX, on July 12. The event will provide fans an opportunity to see all the regular competitors from both the Gulf South and Sooner Regional series take each other on in a "neutral" setting.
In addition to hosting a national/regional event on Labor Day weekend, Haughton's Fast Track Motorplex will also host another pair of ASCS Gulf South Region events, including its $2,000-to-win Spring Nationals on April 5, as well as a July 4 stop at the quarter-mile semi-banked oval.
The ASCS Gulf South Region will also make its first appearance at Hot Rod Hill Motor Park, a high-banked, quarter-mile black clay oval, in Bryan, TX, on May 25.
Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA, will host the Gulf South Region three times in 2003: April 19, August 2 and September 20. The September 20 event at Thunder Valley Speedway, which will feature a $2,500-to-win purse, will be the season finale for the ASCS Gulf South Region.
