"Cajun King" Angelette Masters ASCS Gulf South Sprints at Pike County.

TULSA, Okla. (April 13, 2003) - Defending American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region champion Kelly Angelette continued his winning ways Saturday night by topping the 20-lap main event at Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, MS.

Starting from the pole, Angelette outgunned fellow front row starter Jimmy Brooks at the drop of the green and paced the field all 20 laps to snare the victory in the Southern Trailer Works/Big Tex Trailers No. 19 Maxim. Brooks kept the fleet Angelette in his sights throughout, but was unable to mount a serious bid for the lead, ultimately settling for a career best second place finish.

Corey Herring topped a wild, multi-car battle for third, edging fourth place finisher Chris Sweeney at the line. Butch David turned in a rousing performance, charging from 17th to round out the top five, just a car length ahead of sixth place finisher Todd Johnson. Leading ASCS Gulf South rookie contender Brandon Berryman claimed seventh, with Greg Rilat, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Tina Creswell completing the top ten.

Angelette, Sweeney and Brooks claimed heat race victories for the 20-car field.
