ASCS Gulf South Region gears up for Pike County.

TULSA, Okla. (April 7, 2003) - Defending series champion Kelly Angelette leads the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region forces into this Saturday night's card at Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, MS. It will be the second race of the young season for the ASCS Gulf South Region.

>From Thibodaux, LA, Angelette kicked off his defense of the ASCS Gulf South crown in strong form this past weekend, as his third place showing in the ASCS Gulf South Region season opener at Fast Track Motorplex in Chatham, LA, was tops amongst the Gulf South regulars.

While Angelette may be the odds-on favorite entering this weekend's racing action in Mississippi, a number of strong contenders will be on hand with victory lane plans, including fellow Louisiana driver Todd Johnson of Eunice, and Texas shoes Chris Sweeney from Huffman and Jimmy Brooks of Bryan.

Other contenders expected include A.J. Weaver, Greg Rilat and Tina Creswell, along with rookie contenders Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Cody Pearson, David Forbis and Brandon Berryman, who notched a top ten finish in this past weekend's ASCS Gulf South opener.

Pike County Speedway is located in Magnolia, MS, off I-55 Exit 8, then .2 miles east on Gillsburg Road (State Road 568). For more information, contact the track at 601-783-2500, or ASCS Gulf South Region coordinator Keith Johnson at 337-457-4498.
