ASCS Gulf South Ready for HOT Action on Friday
TULSA, Okla. (July 11, 2005) -- The Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region is geared up for its first Heart O' Texas Speedway invasion of the season as the series takes to the quarter-mile Waco, TX, clay oval this Friday night.
The series debuted at Heart O' Texas in front of a packed house during June of 2004, with Godley, TX, racer Claud Estes scoring the initial win. In two ensuing visits to Waco, it was Sooner Region invader Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth stealing victory honors on both occasions.
Ray Allen Kulhanek of Danbury, TX, enters the event atop the series point charts on the strength of three feature wins. His lead is a slim one however, as Stephen Chevallier of Downsville, LA, is just 14 points off the lead pace. Just eight more points back in third is Lane Whittington of Denham Springs, LA.
Scottie McDonald of New Caney, TX, enters the event fourth in points, just 36 points out of the lead, with Greg Rilat of Texas City, TX, rounding the current top five. The balance of the top ten includes David Kulhanek (Danbury, TX), Chris Sweeney (Humble, TX), Richard Holt (McLeod, TX), Greg Coleman (Hillister, TX) and Ty Johnson (Eunice, LA).
A full field of regular ASCS Gulf South Region contenders will be joined by several American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region shoes, who will use the event as a tune-up for Saturday night's Third Annual Sooner vs. Gulf South Region Shootout at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX.
The top seven in Gulf South Region points are separated by just 84 points entering Friday's card at Heart O' Texas Speedway, which is slated to get under way at 8:00 p.m. Approximately 30 cars are expected for Friday's event.
Heart O' Texas Speedway is located in Waco, TX, off I-35 Exit 343 (FM 308), then 0.6 mile north on east Frontage Road. For more information, contact the track at 254-829-2294 or 254-776-1576.
The Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region will contest 23 events at a dozen different tracks throughout Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi in 2005.
In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction more than 100 nights of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 16 different states.
