ASCS Gulf South Stopped Short at GTRP

BEAUMONT, Texas (April 24, 2009) -- With Friday's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region feature event set to take to Golden Triangle Raceway Park's 0x00bc-mile clay oval, the night was cut short when the skies opened up and washed out the balance of the card.

With the renegade shower that emerged from the Gulf of Mexico forcing the postponement of the main event, twin features are now on tap in three weeks when the ASCS Gulf South Region returns to the Golden Triangle Raceway Park on Friday, May 15.

Prior to Friday's showers, Louisiana's Terry Monroe, two-time and defending series champion Brandon Berryman, 18-year-old Aaron Reutzel and Gulf South "Iron-Man" Greg Rilat topped heat race action for the 27-car field, with series veteran Chris Sweeney winning the 12-lap "B" Main.

When the feature is run on May 15, Monroe will start from the pole position with Brandon Corn alongside.

Jason Johnson's Gulf South weekend was cut short after destroying his Marvin Pearson-owned mount in an incident while leading the "B" Main. With Johnson missing the feature cut as a result, Reutzel has moved into the series top position in the championship points chase entering Saturday night's action at Cleveland's 105 Speedway.
