TULSA, Okla. (November 11, 2003) - Kelly Angelette of Thibodaux, LA, was honored this past Saturday night at the Tropical Isle Casino in Lake Charles, LA, for his second consecutive American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region championship.

Angelette fought off early challenges from Greg Rilat and Sam Hafertepe, Jr., then survived a badly broken wrist from a dirt bike accident prior to the season's final two events. Angelette, who also received Best Appearing Car honors, claimed the title by 32 points.

Rilat, from Texas City, TX, stayed close throughout and claimed second in points, just 26 markers ahead of Hafertepe, who celebrated his 18th birthday Saturday night. Along with his third place finish in points, Hafertepe also won the John Bankston Hard Charger award and the Ronald Laney Rookie of the Year award.

Brandon Berryman claimed fourth in points, with Todd Johnson rounding out the top five. Completing the top ten were Stephen Chevallier, Tina Creswell, Cody Pearson, David Forbis and Chris Sweeney.

Nine drivers picked up perfect attendance awards, including Angelette, Rilat, Hafertepe, Berryman, Chevallier, Creswell, Pearson, Forbis and Harry Yerrington. Chevallier earned the Most Improved Driver award, with Sweeney voted Sportsmanship honors.
