From the Banquet Table at Greenwood Valley . . . by Than Mitchell
Friday night, November 12, was the final wrap for the millennium and the last event for the Greenwood Valley Action Track for 1999. It was Driver Appreciation Banquet time, held again this year at the Jerseytown Community Center in Jerseytown about 4 miles west of Millville. All of the seats were taken, and the place was packed with racers, pit crew, and most importantly, the families of the participants at the Action Track.
After a great meal the track owners and promoters, Gerry and Cindy Creveling started handing out trophies to the deserving winning teams. First, second, and third place trophies were awarded, and the winner of each division also received of a fine Greenwood Valley Action Track jacket.
Joe Bednarski, Wyoming, was awarded a special jacket noting his domination in the micro sprint 250cc division, he was champion in '97, '98 and again in '99. Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills, received a surprise when he was awarded the "Last Winner of the Millennium" jacket for his win in a wingless event late in the evening of the last racing night of the year.
Many thanks to Ron Utt and ScottTown Auto/U-Save Rentals of Bloomsburg, Cliff Loss and J.C. Specialty from Penns Creek, Pepsi and all the other folks who helped to make the evening a success.
"Bug Night" is planned for the last Saturday night in March 2000 to kick of the next racing season, the first of the new millennium. Judging by the young talent developing this year at the Greenwood Valley Action Track, next year will be an exciting one. Watch for notice of spring events at the track which will be posted at the Action Track's Web site at Greenwood Valley Action Track.
