Solid sixth for Rush and DFR team at Riverview.

19 October 2002-- Combining with Australia's most famous name, Garry Rush gave the Disbury Family Racing team a solid start to the 2002/03 season in the T&R Murray Bridge Sprintcar Cup at Riverview Speedway tonight.

The"son of a gun" Garry Rush is the son of 10-times Australian Champion, Garry Rush Senior slotted in well with the slick working Disbury Family Racing crew.

After two top 3 finishes in the heat races Rush started from the sixth position in the inaugural running of the cup.

"I got baulked a bit at the start which cost me early in the race," said Rush.

The 34-year-old settled into seventh position looking for a way to move forward. At mid race he found a way past into sixth and set about chasing down a top 5 finish.

Over the closing laps the car got stronger as he closed in on the top 5 runners to finish in sixth position at the completion of the 20-laps.

"In the second heat there was a small power steering leakage which gradually got worse throughout the feature race, but that's excuse I needed to get a better start," commented the 34-year-old.

"The car was good and just got better as the race went on, I think the car would have been even better in another 10-laps but I'm not sure I could have gone another 10 laps.

"It was great to get back in a car again, I was a little rusty considering I haven't raced for over 9 months. I can't say enough good things about the DFR team and the Riverview track curators put on a great surface to race on."

Team owner, Darren Disbury was equally happy with the result from this evening.

"The team's number one aim tonight was to have a consistent run and keep out of trouble and we done both. It would have been good to finish in the top 5 but sixth with a straight car was good," commented Disbury.

"Garry was good to work with and the team worked superbly again, I can't say enough about the team spirit entering the tough season ahead. I am looking forward to working with Garry again soon and I know he will continue to brush of that rust."
