SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- When the Empire Super Sprints' (ESS) 20th Anniversary schedule was released, a new addition was seen on Friday night, July 25th. The Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario will host it's first ever ESS event which is also part of the VSM Abrasives Canadian Invasion series.
Glenn Styres is the owner and builder of the fast ½ mile and is a racer himself as he steps behind the wheel of his own sprinter and CASCAR Late Model. Sprints are a huge hit with the fans at Ohsweken as both the Southern Ontario Sprints (SOS) and the Michigan based Sprints on Dirt (SoD) have held events this year. On the 25th, the stars and cars of ESS will invade with the biggest crowd in the tracks history expected.
Leading the winged brigade to Ohsweken will be current ESS point leader and four-time winner Mike Lutz. Lutz's closest rivals in Dan Kaszubinski, Justin Barger, Lance Yonge and John Karklin Jr. will also be on hand looking to close in on the point lead. The Woodring Racing team of eight-time ESS champion Mike Woodring and Erin Crocker will also be in the pits as well as Styres himself, who is coming off two wins with his sprinter, and other drivers from the SOS circuit.
The 25 lap A-Main pays $1450 to win with $200 going to the last place finisher making the event the most lucrative in Ohsweken history. Three Engler Machine and Tool heat events along with the Walt's Hobby Dash and the KSE Racing Products B-Main will precede the finale.
