Empire Super Sprints Makes Return to McKean County After Six Years.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - On July 20, 1996, Mike Woodring flashed underneath the checkered flag at the McKean County Raceway on his way to his second Empire Super Sprint (ESS) championship. That event marked the last time the winged warriors of ESS danced at the East Smethport, Pa. oval.

On Saturday night, Aug. 10, the ESS Tour 2002 will make it's return to the ultra-fast 1/3rd mile oval. Once a mainstay on the ESS schedule, McKean will role out the red carpet for the sprint car reunion. A big field led by local favorite Tom Taber will fill the pits at the fairgrounds and in typical McKean fashion, a SRO crowd will be there for the excitement. Fans can take in a full weekend of sprint action as the stars and cars of ESS will be at the Black Rock Speedway the night prior.

The addition makes the Tour 2002 build to 39 dates, the largest in ESS history. With total prize money over half-a-million dollars, the 19th season of showcasing "America's Race Cars" is promising to be the most exciting as well.

The first green flag of the new season will be waved on Sat., April 13 at Black Rock and from the opening night to October 12, the Empire Super Sprints will be coming to a dirt track near you. It will be excitement guaranteed!
