The nativepoker.com Tour for the Empire Super Sprints Kicks back into Gear this Weekend with two Spectro Oils Canadian Invasion Events.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- For nearly all of the teams that have been showcasing the most competitive year ever for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS), it has been a well deserved two weekends off. With the rest, the nativepoker.com Tour is ready to rumble "North of the Border" this weekend with stops at Autodrome Edelweiss Speedway and the Brockville Ontario Speedway.
These two events will carry extra weight as not only will it award points for the overall ESS championship, but also the Spectro Oils Canadian Invasion Series as well which carries a separate point fund. Although winless so far in 2006, Dan Kaszubinski has the lead in the overall points but his margin is as close as it could get following 18 point shows run so far. Justin Barger is a mere 21 points behind with Alain Bergeron, Jessica Zemken and Steve Poirier a stones throw away from Kaszubinski as well. Then add Doug Emery, Lance Yonge, Jeff VanDusen, Jeff Cook and Bubby Kerrick in tenth, the top ten are only separated by a total of 192 points. This is easily the closest point fight in the 24 year history of the club.
In the Spectro Oils points, Zemken has just a one point lead over French-Canadian Alain Bergeron followed closely by Poirier, Emery and Yonge.
This Friday the stars and cars of ESS will head north of Canada's Capital of Ottawa to the nearby town of Cantley, Quebec. It marks the first time since 1993 that the winged warriors will make two visits to the quick, 1/3rd mile oval of Edelweiss. Back on July 14th, two-time champion in Yonge finally broke his winless year with a strong run over Poirier and Zemken. Both Yonge and Zemken represented ESS at the annual 360 Nationals and Tournament of Champions at the Knoxville Raceway and will be ready on this night. Also top stars such as John Karklin Jr., Billy White, Doug Norrie, Nick Fratto and others will be on hand which promises to be a big field of sprints.
The next night it's back into Ontario to the beautiful town of Brockville and the first visit of 2006 to Paul Kirkland's quarter-mile speedplant. June 3rd was the scheduled first appearance for ESS but Mother Nature decided to take the A-Main victory on this night. With the final appearance for this Saturday,, you can expect the usual SRO crowd that has become the norm. All the ESS stars along with Russ Bennett, Matt Norrie, Bobby Podolak, Luke Eriksen, Donny Sharp Jr. and local favorite Rick Wilson will help fill the pit log.
It's been a long two weeks since the thunder and lightning of the nativepoker.com Tour for the Empire Super Sprints has pounded a dirt track near you. That silence will come to an end this weekend at Edelweiss and Brockville. Oh Canada! It will be excitement guaranteed!!
