The "Land of Legends" -- The Canandaigua Speedway will be invaded by ESS Sprint Cars on May 11th.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- For the second consecutive year the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) first full point show will now kick off at the Ontario County Fairgrounds and the Canandaigua Speedway. After the scheduled opener at the Black Rock Speedway fell to weather, May 11th will now see the trail to the ESS Tour 2002 championship being kicked off.
Last year sophomore driver Randy Years thrilled the hometown crowd with a dominating victory. The 2000 co-rookie of the year took his first of what would be two A-Main victories in 2001 building on what promises to be a very successful ESS career. In June of last season, Penn Yan, N.Y.'s Lance Yonge made it three years in a row visiting victory lane at the fast and exciting ½ mile oval. Years and Yonge will again be in the field on the Saturday night along with seven-time ESS champion Mike Woodring, Dan Kaszubinski as well as local are drivers Rob Dietrick, Mike Stelter and Bill Coffey.
A field of well over 30 sprints will take to the DIRT sanctioned track known as the "Land of Legends". Sprint fans will get to see three Brodix Cylinder Heads heat events followed by the Speedway Performance/Walt's Hobby Dash and the KSE Racing Products B-Main. All the action will then culminate with the 20 lap A-Main which will award the winner over $2,000 in cash and awards.
