SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The 2006 racing season for the nativepoker.com Tour of the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) gets ready to drop the first green flag on Saturday night May 6th at the Fulton Speedway. Awaiting all race teams in attendance will be the largest pot of gold offered in the 24 year history of the 360 sprint car organization.
While proudly one of the highest paying 360 sanctioning bodies in the nation, ESS continues to combat the ever increasing costs of travel and expenses that have occurred over the years. This season race teams will see each 25 lap A-main pay a minimum of $1,600 to win, $1,050 for second, $600 for fifth, $400 for tenth on down to a nice sum of $250 just to take the green which is one of the largest "to take the green" amount offered in any organization. With nightly bonuses, a driver could see as much as $1,925 cash in one night if he or she makes a clean sweep of all awards.
"We have been working very hard to keep on giving as much money as we can to the race teams that enters each ESS sanctioned event. It has been our goal every off-season." noted ESS President Chuck Miller. "We're very proud to offer such a nice package and that has been without raising our cost to the promoters for the fifth consecutive season now. We realize that the cost to run a program rises each year as well so we need to get added dollars through sponsorships. We are very lucky to have a long list of cash sponsors aboard and this year the list is the largest we have ever had."
This season ESS is proud to have Ohsweken Speedway, The National Parts Peddler Newspaper, Car Mate Trailers, Walt's Hobby, Lane's Yamaha and Geneva Curbing adding to each night's payout. Spectro Oils is back to sponsor the Canadian Invasion point fund while Hoosier Racing Tires and Brodix Cylinder Heads will help out in the overall point fund. With the addition of tour sponsor nativepoker.com, the largest sponsor of its kind in ESS history, the year end point fund could see a record amount as well.
The 23rd Anniversary season boasts 36 dates from Autodrome Drummond in Quebec to Knoxville, Iowa and some 15 different tracks in between. Along with returning tracks of Drummond, Utica-Rome, Autodrome Granby, Can-Am, Albany-Saratoga, Cornwall, Brockville, Frogtown, Edelweiss, Ohsweken and Little Valley, a big welcome back to Fulton, Brewerton and Canandaigua as well as a welcome to South Buxton for their first ever ESS tour event.
ESS will once again be a part of the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals, The Bully Hill Vineyards Sprint Nationals, the Sprint Challenge at Rolling Wheels along with the annual 360 Sprint Nationals and the Tournament of Champions held at the famed Knoxville Raceway. ESS teams are also invited to the first ever Shot Drop Nationals held by the United Racing Company at the famed Williams Grove Raceway.
Sprint fans will be on the edge of their seats every night with such top wheelman as Lance Yonge, Jeff VanDusen, Dan Kaszubinski, Jeff Cook, Alain Bergeron, Donny Sharp Jr., The Norrie Bros., John Karklin Jr., Bubby Kerrick, Nick Fratto, Bob Podolak, Kyle Moffit, Doug Emery, Billy White, Russ Bennett, Luke Eriksen and many others set to run the full tour for 2006. Lets bring back Kyle Drum and three-time ESS champion Gordy Button along with the rookie of the year crop of Jessica Zemken, Steve Poirier, Tommy Wickham and Jason Barney you have the makings of a wild night, every night.
