East Coast Season Opens this Weekend

Three east coast tracks open their doors this weekend, kicking off the 2001 racing season in the mid-atlantic region. Lincoln Speedway will begin its 48th year of professional automobile racing on Saturday afternoon, while Williams Grove Speedway and Hagerstown Speedway will start their seasons on Sunday.

Located just outside Hanover, PA, Lincoln Speedway will feature the Icebreaker 25 for the Super Sprint cars. Early season races in central Pennsylvania often attract out of state invaders to challenge the always strong contingent of drivers known as the Pennsylvania Posse. Racing at Lincoln Speedway gets underway at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Thundercars join the 410 sprint cars on the program.

On Sunday afternoon, the Pennsylvania Posse heads to the famous Williams Grove Speedway, located in Mechanicsburg, PA., for a $3,000 to win feature race. The first heat race is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.

Hagerstown Speedway also kicks off their 2001 season on Sunday afternoon. The Hagerstown, MD Speedway, which will hold its 16th annual Race-A-Rama Valley Mall car show Mall February 22-24, opens the 2001 season with Late Models and Modifieds. Each feature race is scheduled for 35 laps with the Modifieds racing for a qualifying position at Syracuse later in the season. All the action at Hagerstown Speedway starts at 1:00 p.m.
