ASCS Set for Mardi Gras Bash at Deep South Speedway!
TULSA, Okla. (January 22, 2008) -- Deep South Speedway in Loxley, AL, will open the 2008 racing season in grand style with the American Sprint Car Series Coastal and Rebel Regions squaring off atop the high-banked, 4/10-mile clay oval on Saturday night, February 9.
Serving as the season opener for both the ASCS Coastal and Rebel Regions, the headline feature event of Deep South Speedway's annual Mardi Gras Bash offers up a $3,000 winner's share.
It marks the second consecutive year that the two Regions have opened the racing season with an Alabama showdown, with Marshall Skinner of West Memphis, AR, holding off Oklahoma's Wayne Johnson and Memphis' Terry Gray to crack Deep South Speedway's victory lane last February.
Other ASCS winners at Deep South Speedway in 2007 included Louisiana's Lane Whittington, who scored a Coastal Region win on June 30, and Jasonohnson, who topped a Coastal vs. Rebel Regional Showdown on September 8.
Michael Dupuy of Amite, LA, went on to win the inaugural ASCS Coastal Region championship in 2007, while Pierson, FL, racer T.J. Winegardner captured the inaugural ASCS Rebel Region title.
A stout field of entries is expected to slug it out for the $3,000 winner's take at Deep South Speedway on February 9. Both Regions are expected to bring a strong contingent of competitors, while a number of other teams making their way home from the previous weekend's O'Reilly ASCoT season opener at East Bay Raceway Park may drop in on the ASCS Rebel vs. Coastal Region showdown as well.
The ASCS Coastal Region, which sanctions events primarily in Mississippi and the surrounding states, currently has nine events on the 2008 slate with more to be added.
The ASCS Rebel Region, sanctioning events primarily in Georgia and the surrounding states, currently has 14 events on the 2008 slate with additional events in the works.
Deep South Speedway is located in Loxley, AL, off I-10 Exit 44, then four miles north on SR 59, then 0x00be-miles west. For more information contact the track at 251-964-6953. Hot laps are scheduled to get under way at 5:00 p.m., with racing action to follow.
The 2008 season marks the 17th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
