Virgil, NY -- The Central New York Mini Sprint series rolled into Skyline Raceway for their season-opener this past Saturday. Twenty cars entered the pits to compete in the feature event, but unfortunately two drivers had problems in hot laps.

Mike Emhof of Sodus, NY blew a motor in his Pro Tire & Service-sponsored #15m machine during hot laps but managed to get a back-up ride in one of Al Scerbo's cars. Chris Van Buren of Otego, NY had clutch problems during his hot lap session and had to load up early.

Light showers delayed the start of heat races, but with a break in the weather, Skyline officials chose to roll the program off. The CNYMS tour competitors were able to get their heat races in before the skies opened up. Al Scerbo of Liverpool, NY was hooked up in his Niagara Power Sports #10 and captured his first win of the season in heat race #1.

Cory Sparks of Scotia, NY in the PowderTech Custom Powder Coating #7 edged out the Matthews Buses #44 of Don Harvey of Oneonta, NY in the second heat race.

Frank and Audrey Payne of Skyline Raceway did everything in their power to get the show in, but in the end Mother Nature won out. Heat race points were awarded for the night to the Central New York Mini Sprint series competitors.

The season opener will now move to Saturday, May 22nd at Skyline with heat races and a feature event on tap for the evening.
