Lapan Takes Mini Sprint Shootout at McKean Co.

Sodus, NY - Marc Lapan, of Glens Falls, NY, won his second Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies Mini Sprint Six Gun Shootout race in a row, taking the feature event at McKean Co. Raceway in East Smethport, PA on July 17. The event was sanctioned by Central New York Mini Sprints (CNYMS), Inc. With the win, Lapan took possession of both the CNYMS Tour points and Six Gun Series points leads. Lapan started on the pole, but Dave Peworchik (Harporsville, NY), took the early lead from his second starting position. Lapan regained the lead from Peworchik on lap 7, and Peworchik brought out the race's only caution the next lap when he slowed with mechanical problems. Lapan led from the restart to the checkered flag, as Jeff Lamothe (Easthampton, MA) and Blasé Regina (Altamont, NY) batt led for the second spot. At the finish, it was Lamothe taking second and Regina third. Rounding out the top five were Jim VanSteenburg (West Shokan, NY) in fourth, and Brian Burns (West Shokan, NY) in fifth. Lamothe, Peworchik, and Lapan won heat races. In addition to the winner's purse, which was sponsored by Papa Joe's Restaurant and Sodus Bay Tackle and Outfitters, both of Sodus Point, NY, Lapan was presented a package of specialty lubricants an d apparel supplied by Six Gun series sponsors Dow Corning and Kaman Industrial Technologies. Lamothe took home a gift certificate from Seymour Enterprises, a distributor of performance race products for open wheel and stock car racers. The Weld Wheels Race Hard Charger Award was given to Jeff Howell, of Rochester, NY. This award is given to the driver who finishes out of the top five and advan ces the most positions in the feature race from his starting spot. The Pennzoil product contingency award made possible by Slate Belt Auto Parts, Bangor, PA. went to A.J. Bagozzi, of Camillus, NY. The feature winner bases this award on a random drawing of all the feature finishers. The CNYMS tour will travel to the New Fonda Speedway, Fultonville, NY, on July 31st, and the Shootout will wind up on August 7th, at Woodhull (NY) Speedway.
