Emhof wins at Devil's Bowl, close second at Albany-Saratoga.
Williamson, NY - Mike Emhof of Sodus, NY, continued his charge to the front in the Central New York Mini Sprint (CNYMS) tour points standings with a strong performance during the month of July.
Emhof powered his Pace Electronics/Heluva Good Foods mini sprinter to a victory at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Fair Haven, VT, on July 14th. The race had been rescheduled from earlier in the year, when wet track conditions forced postponement of the event. It was Emhof's second victory in as many tries at the Bowl, as the CNYMS tour had previously visited the ½ mile oval in 1998. The victory at Devil's Bowl was Emhof's second CNYMS tour race in a row, as he grabbed the checkers at Weedport on June 30th.
Emhof and the Branich Motorsports team then traveled to Mok-a-Tek Speedway for the July 20th CNYMS event. Emhof won his qualifying race going away, but for the second time this year at Mok-a-Tek, Emhof's charge to the front in the feature was derailed when he was caught up in a mid-race accident. His car was damaged and he was unable to continue.
Emhof and the team bounced back at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on July 26th. After the team repaired damage sustained in hot laps, Emhof started his heat race in 8th and ended in 2nd. His finish put him outside the second row for the feature, and from there he moved into the second position by mid-race. He and current tour points leader Matt Norrie then waged a spirited battle with both racers weaving through lapped traffic, Norrie low and Emhof high. The two traded the lead in the waning laps, with Norrie edging Emhof at the checkered flag.
The team will travel to Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport for the Lyons National Bank Dash for Cash Series event on August 4. The CNYMS tour will then move on to the high banks of Woodhull (NY) Speedway on August 10th.
