Strong Field Expected For Carquest Pa Sprint Speedweek Action Tuesday,
Sprinters Kick Off Summer Spectacular Schedule - Six Dates In 17 Days
Minersville, PA - June 22 (updated June 25) - The 410 Super Sprints make only their fourth appearance ever at Big Diamond Raceway in Forestville, PA, on Tuesday night, June 26, as part of CARQUEST Auto Parts Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek. The sprinters will headline the 7:30 PM card, which will also include the Sportsman Stocks to kick-off Big Diamond's Super Summer Seventeen Series, with six dates in seventeen days on the Big Diamond schedule.
Fans have been talking about the Tuesday night, June 26, appearance of the powerful 410 Super Sprints as part of CARQUEST Penna. Sprint Speedweek 2001. The York-based Apple Motorsports Team is undefeated in Big Diamond 410 Sprint action as Fred Rahmer, Greg Hodnett and Tyler Walker have recorded wins in the red 12. Tennessee native, Hodnett, is back in the 12 after a year with the World of Outlaws and is ready to extend the streak. But stars like Fred Rahmer, Lance Dewease, Don Kreitz, Todd Shaffer, Dave Ely, Curt Michael, Sean Michael, and Len Thompson are among the expected challengers.
The event will also see the cars of the Official Potato Chips of Big Diamond Raceway, Middleswarth Potato Chips driven by Keith Kauffman and possibly Todd Hestor, in action. In fact Middleswarth representatives contacted the track today and have provide 1500 bags of their fine potato chips, plain and barbeque, to be handed out to the fans when then enter the spectator gate!
"When we discussed the date for our Speedweek event this season, we knew the All Stars have historically had their Ohio Speedweek at the same time we ran here in Pennsylvania," shared Big Diamond Race Director, Jeff Gromis. "We picked this Tuesday because the All Stars have their Ohio series next week. I don't know if we can attract any of the Western Pennsylvania, Ohio or other sprint teams to Big Diamond but we certainly will not be running against the Ohio tracks that could attract a few of the local stars West. We're looking to provide the fans with the best show we can."
The NASCAR ShorTrack Sportsman will also be on the June 26 card in a race that will carry track points. Big Diamond regulars will be required to run regular track tire to earn points but the event will also be a challenge to visiting Sportsman stars. Those outsiders will be permitted to compete on their local track's tire as long as they meet the remainder of Big Diamond's Sportsman specifications.
Time trials for the sprint cars start at 7:30 PM. Gates will open at 5:30. On Friday June 29, the NASCAR Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners will be in action on Dairy Association Night. There will also be a very special pre-race Meet the Drivers/Big Diamond Be a Reader program involving modified driver Duane Howard with his 126, sportsman driver, Shawn Fitzpatrick and his 102 and roadrunner racer Mike Allar and his 22.
On Tuesday night, July 3, Big Diamond hosts the Georgie Stevenson Memorial 50 for Modifieds. The Stevenson Memorial is dedicated to the memory of Georgie Stevenson, who dedicated his short life to helping others. With the new Tuesday night date and the $4000 top prize, a few invaders are expected to take on the already strong field of Big Diamond Modified stars. The Roadrunners will also be on the card that carries a 7:30 starting time. Both divisions will be running for Big Diamond NASCAR points in this event.
But it does not end there. On Friday, July 6, it's True Value Hardware Night and the fourth Simpson Racing Products Contingency Night at Big Diamond for the NASCAR's Weekly Racing Series Modifieds, ShorTrack Sportsman, Roadrunners. The track opens on Tuesday, July 10, from 7:30-10:00 for another Open Practice Night, which is open to any racing division for a $15 pit fee with no membership, required. The practice is also free to fans in the stands.
The "Super Summer Seventeen" at Big Diamond is concluded on Friday night, July 13, with another big one. The BAR'S Leaks United Racing Club Sprints join the NASCAR Modifieds to provide two headlining divisions on the same card. Additionally the NASCAR Roadrunners will also be in action.
