Big Diamond confirms seven KARS 358 Sprint dates for 2003.
Landisville, PA - November 29 - Big Diamond Raceway has confirmed that the Doorways Unlimited KARS 358 Sprint Cars will make seven appearances at the Minersville, PA 3/8-mile oval in 2003. The seven-race mini-series will carry KARS points and will conclude with the KARS National Open on Saturday evening, September 20.
The first KARS appearance of the season will be on Sunday afternoon, April 6. Friday night dates follow on May 9, June 13, July 25, and August 29. They will part of Big Diamond Raceway's PA Speedweek show along with the 410 Sprints on Tuesday night, July 1. A series sponsor is being sought for the seven-race schedule.
"We worked very hard with Duval Dressler and Denny Gross of KARS and Alan Kreitzer of Williams Grove to come up with dates that will work," commented Big Diamond Race Director, Jeff Gromis. 'None of our event dates conflict with any of Williams Grove Speedway's Middleswarth Potato Chip 358 Sprint dates making it a win-win for everyone. There are a few other details we are still working out with Duval for one or two of the Friday dates to further enhance the competition and fan appeal."
Chad Layton of Harrisburg, PA captured two of the three KARS 358 Sprint races at Big Diamond in 2002. But as the season wore on some top ten finishes with the 410 Sprint led Chad to competition at Williams Grove forcing him to miss the final event at Big Diamond. That void was filled by Darren Eash of Ijamsville, MD, who made his first visit to Big Diamond and captured the last of three 2002 Big Diamond checkered flags under the KARS banner. Dale Hammaker of Grantville, PA won the unofficial three-race, Big Diamond 358 Sprint point title over Keith Prutzman, Dan Richcreek, Jake Raudabaugh and Brian Eichelberger.
The full Big Diamond Raceway 2003 schedule is not yet ready for release as the track is still trying to determine what date or dates will be selected for the United Racing Club 360 Sprint Cars.
The season is slated to open on Sunday afternoon, March 31, with the Sportsman Stocks and Roadrunners in competition with the Modified class running in a practice session. Plans call for the Sportsman to run in an extra-distance feature.
One week later on April 6 at 2PM the Modifieds join the KARS 358 Sprints and the Roadrunners. And on April 13, it is Modifieds, Sportsman and Roadrunners. Plans are up in the air for the Easter Weekend, but the action will definitely shift to Friday nights on April 25.
A final, detailed schedule will be released soon. For more information on Big Diamond Raceway, call 570-544-6434, write to PO Box 298, Minersville, PA 17954 or check out the world wide web at www.bigdiamondraceway.com.
