Minersville, PA - August 22, 2002 - The Checkered Flag Fan Club and the KARS Doorways Unlimited Sprints kickoff a big weekend of speed at Big Diamond Raceway on Friday night, August 30. The KARS Sprints will join the regularly featured Modifieds and Sportsman Stocks on the card.
The Friday show, which starts at 8PM and carries Big Diamond points, is a prelude to the Big Diamond's biggest race of the year, the 23rd running of the Coal Cracker Modified 100 paying $10,000 on Sunday evening, September 1. The Coal Cracker 20 for roadrunners will also be part of the Sunday show that starts at 7PM.
Checkered Flag Fan Club Night on Friday will see the club continue their membership drive and fund raising for their injured drivers' fund. As a way of saying thanks to the club for its efforts, CFFC members showing their membership cards will get a $2 discount on their admission to the spectator area for the Friday CFFC Night courtesy of Fritz and JoAnn Roehrig of Big Diamond.
Chad Layton has used late race heroics to take the first two 25-lap KARS features at Big Diamond this season. Three drivers who have seen their hopes of victory dashed by Layton; Keith Prutzman, Dale Hammaker and Dan Rickcreek; are sure to be ready to take their first 2002 win at the track as Layton appears to be unable to participate this Friday night. If fact this trio of drivers have even more to contend for as they will be battling for points as they join Jake "The Snake" Raudabaugh in the field as the top four in KARS points.
This event will also provide a unique tune-up opportunity for several of the cars entered in the Coal Cracker 100 as they will not just be practicing but actually competing for a payoff. The Modifieds will run in a full program culminating with a 20-lap feature. The cash payout for the top five will be slightly less than a normal 20-lap feature at Big Diamond but these five drivers will also qualify for the Coal Cracker 100. The remainder of the feature run down will receive the normal 20-lap feature payoff. The event will also carry points toward the Big Diamond Raceway/NASCAR Weekly Racing Series presented by Dodge championship standings.
The five cars that qualify on Friday need do nothing more than show up Sunday's 100 and draw for their feature starting spots with the 12 to 15 heat qualifiers from Sunday.
