The 2003 Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprint Series gets ready for the new season with a big weekend at Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne IN. The fast ½ mile oval promoted by Tom Isch will host the winged warriors of the AVSS on four occasions with the first being Saturday April 26 and Sunday April 27.

The big open wheel weekend will have a five-hour practice session for all classes on Saturday from 12-5 and then a racers party on Saturday evening. The festivities begin on Sunday with pit gates opening at 9:00 and hot laps start at 10:00. The qualifying begins at noon and racing starts at 2:00pm.

A huge field of cars and stars from the AVSS are expected to compete in this start to the chase for the 2003 drivers and car owner's championships. The 2002 AVSS driver champion was Tim Cox of Park City IL driving the B&D Racing 98c machine. The car owner's champion was the 20 car of Mike Katz racing. Leslie MI driver Tom Fedewa primarily raced this car in 2002 and this strong team is back to capture both halves of the AVSS crown this season. A field of nearly 30 AVSS competitors is expected with previous AVSS champions Gary Fedewa and Bill Tyler among them. The record setting drivers that are expected to compete also include Angola IN legend Hank Lower, Jeff Bloom of Bangor MI a three time winner of the Little 500 race and multi track record holder Kevin Feeney of Oxford MI.

The expected entries also include Mike Ling of MT Brydges ONT, Rick Baker of Mooresville IN, Dennis Craft of Dansville MI, Ryan Katz of Battle Creek MI, Johnboy Hotchkiss of Charlotte MI, Kevin Newton of Terre Haute IN and Chris Hayes from Rockford MI.

The race for the 2002 championship was the closest in series history with Cox winning by a slim five-point margin for the driver's crown over Bill Tyler. The record setting drivers of the AVSS get ready for action this coming weekend at Baer Field Speedway to kick off a highly anticipated 2003 chase for the championships.
