Wirtgen America To Present "Brad Doty Classic" At Attica
ATTICA, OHIO (FEBRUARY 24, 2002) - National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Brad Doty and Attica Raceway Park's Janet Holbrook are pleased to announce that this year's "Brad Doty Classic" 410-cubic-inch sprint car race, scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, will be presented by Stu Murray's Wirtgen America company. The $14,000-to-win open-competition affair will officially be known as "Wirtgen America presents the Brad Doty Classic", and Brad will again be present signing autographs and greeting fans.
According to Doty, a past recipient of the National Sprint Car Poll's Media Member of the Year award, "I am personally very proud to be associated with Stu and Connie Murray of Wirtgen America. They are two of the nicest and most generous supporters of sprint car racing that I've ever met, and we're pleased that they've chosen to partner with our event at Attica. Last year the race was recognized on Bobby Gerould's 'Hammerdown! Hundred' list as being in the top third of the biggest sprint car races in the nation. Janet and I think that with Wirtgen America's help this year, and the race's $45,000-plus total purse, that it'll become one of the country's 'must see' events for 2002!"
The feature is traditionally one of the most competitive races of the year, with veteran Danny Smith of Danville, Indiana, becoming the first two-time winner of the "Brad Doty Classic" last summer. Past winners include inaugural winner Steve Kinser (1989), Jack Hewitt (1990), fellow National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Bobby Allen (1991), Mother Nature (1992), Mark Keegan (1993), Danny Smith (1994, 2001), Randy Kinser (1995), Dale Blaney (1996), Tyler Walker (1997), Jeff Shepard (1998), Butch Schroeder (1999), and Kenny Jacobs (2000).
The July 17th feature will pay $14,000, $6,000, $4,000, $2,500, and $2,000 to the top five finishers, respectively. The 14th annual race will pay a whopping $500-to-start, and Thursday, July 18th will be utilized if a rain date is necessary. 305 c.i. sprint cars will again provide the supporting entertainment.
