Wright Takes O'Reilly ASCoT Streak to Lucas Oil Speedway

TULSA, Okla. (April 8, 2008) -- Bidding for a fifth consecutive O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National championship, Gary Wright will carry more than the points lead into the Saturday night, April 19, event at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO.

"The Texan" will also carry an unprecedented streak of 20 consecutive top-five feature finishes in O'Reilly ASCoT feature action into the card atop the semi-banked, 3/8-mile clay oval dubbed "The Diamond of Dirt Tracks".

Wright's string of top-five runs covers all seven events contested this year as well as the final 13 feature events of the 2007 season, with his last finish outside the top five taking place last July 4 in the Daniel McMillin Memorial at Double X Speedway in California, MO.

Three nights later on July 7, Wright raced to victory lane at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS. And he hasn't been kept outside the top five since that time, even with car counts averaging over 50 cars per night over the stretch of 20 events.

The previous mark of 16 consecutive top-five finishes was set during the 2005 season. Naturally, it was a mark established by Wright. The series most recent feature on March 22 at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway was the 520th in ASCS National Tour history.

With six different drivers scoring wins through the opening seven nights of the 2008 season, Wright is out to the early lead in the $50,000 championship points chase with a 46-point advantage over Oklahoma City native Wayne Johnson.

Louisiana's Jason Johnson, the only driver to post two ASCS National wins thus far in 2008, is currently third in points, with Jason Sides and Garry Lee Maier rounding out the current top five.
