ASCS Northern Plains Speedweek Continues Tuesday at I-90
TULSA, Okla. (June 18, 2007) -- The inaugural ASCS Northern Plains Speedweek for the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series continues with round two on Tuesday night as the series makes its first ever appearance at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD.
Then after Tuesday's battle atop high-banked, 3/8-mile I-90 Speedway dirt oval, it's another pair of new venues for the ASCS National Tour with North Central Speedway in Brainerd, MN, on Wednesday night and then the Speedweek finale at Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, SD, on Saturday.
The ASCS National contenders will be joined on all three cards by the ASCS Northern Plains Region competitors.
Three-time and reigning series champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, leads the way into the week's three remaining events with a 24-point lead over Oklahoma City's Wayne Johnson, the 2000 ASCS National champion.
But it's Eunice, Louisiana's Jason Johnson who enters Tuesday's card at I-90 Speedway with a hot hand after winning Saturday night's ASCS Northern Plains Speedweek opener at Crawford County Speedway in Denison, IA.
Johnson is the only National Tour regular with a previous look at I-90 Speedway, as he scored a dramatic win on the Hartford surface last year in a Regional event.
With his fourth National win of the year this past weekend, "The Ragin' Cajun" is just 53 points off Wright's lead pace in the $50,000 championship points race.
Forney, TX, shoe Travis Rilat, the 2003 ASCS National champion, remains in title contention as well just 111 points out of the lead, while Foster Landon of Collinsville, OK, has strengthened his leading Brodix Rookie of the Year status by cracking the top five in points.
The ASCS Northern Plains Region will be well represented over the course of the week, led by defending champion Chuck Swenson of Watertown, SD, along with other top shoes including Eric Lutz (Sioux Falls, SD), Wade Nygaard (Fargo, ND), Lee Grosz (Harwood, ND), Gregg Bakker (Sioux Falls, SD), Jake Peters (Sioux Falls, SD) and current ASCS Midwest Region point leader Natalie Sather (Fargo, ND).
