Smith Withdraws ASCoT Protest

TULSA, Okla. (July 18, 2006) -- Upon further consideration, Nick Smith and the MPHG Promotions No. 15s team withdrew their protest of the track scales following Saturday night's O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour COMP Cams Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek finale at Lawton Speedway.

Smith took the checkered flag first in the 30-lap feature event, but weighed in 25-30 pounds light in each of three attempts to meet the minimum weight of 1,475 pounds. Car owner Kip Smith and crew chief Jimmy Jones initially protested the accuracy of the scales, but later determined that the excessive loss of oil and water while running the entire distance on just seven cylinders attributed to the inability to meet the minimum weight.

Smith entered the six-event ASCS Sizzlin' Summer Speedweek, but slipped to fourth after Saturday's disqualification. Smith is 91 points off Gary Wright's lead pace in the $50,000 championship points race.

The O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour resume action on Saturday, July 29, at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, AR.
