O'Reilly ASCoT -- Jason Johnson and Team Receive Honors
TULSA, Okla. (May 17, 2007) -- Louisiana's Jason Johnson and team are set for Thursday night's O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series Bully Hill Vineyards New York Sprint Nationals open practice session at Dundee's Black Rock Speedway just a few short days after receiving honors for a stellar 2006 season.
During this past Saturday night's opening ceremonies at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX, Johnson and the entire Shop Motorsports team were presented awards from the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum's 2006 National Sprint Car Poll.
"The Ragin' Cajun" was presented with National Driver of the Year honors, while car owner Lanny Row and the rest of the team received National Team of the Year honors as well.
Johnson picked off 17 total ASCS wins last year, including a series-best nine National triumphs, to earn the award.
"I'm just feel real fortunate that Lanny and Alan (Row) give me the opportunity to drive The Shop Motorsports car," Johnson explained. "The kind of season we had last year is hard to come by, it was my crew and all their hard work that led to it and it's a great honor to receive this award."
After stumbling out of the starting gates this year, Johnson picked off a pair of ASCS National wins in Arkansas on April 27 and 28 and enters this weekend's double at Black Rock Speedway in top form with five consecutive top-five feature finishes and nine top-tens in the last ten feature events.
Currently ranked third, 120 points off Gary Wright's lead pace and just 21 markers behind second-running Wayne Johnson, Jason Johnson will try to cut those deficits as he continues his pursuit of the $50,000 O'Reilly ASCoT National title with this weekend's first-ever series event in the State of New York.
The O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series is currently slated for 46 nights of racing action at 24 different tracks throughout 16 different states, with more than $1,000,000 in purse money and point fund to be distributed during the 2007 season.
The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With 13 different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
