Devil's Bowl & OKC Open with O'Reilly ASCoT
TULSA, Okla. (March 7, 2006) -- After this weekend's O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour action at Baton Rouge Raceway and Houston Raceway Park, the series opens the curtains on the 2006 season for both the Devil's Bowl Speedway and State Fair Speedway over the next two weekends.
The famed Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX, kicks off the season with ASCoT headlining the 33rd Annual Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals on March 17-18. The following weekend, Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway kicks off its 52nd consecutive year of racing with the American Sprint Cars on Tour taking center stage on March 24-25.
The rugged three weekend stretch of action, with approximately 50 cars expected for each night of racing, will play a big role in determining the series top championship contenders for the 2006 season.
Hooks, TX, ace Gary Wright heads an impressive cast of drivers chasing the O'Reilly ASCoT crown that includes other past ASCS National champions Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, and Travis Rilat of Forney, TX.JOther top shoes expected to vie for the title include 2005 series runner-up Darren Stewart (Bixby, OK), 2005 Rookie of the Year Tony Bruce, Jr. (Liberal, KS), 2005 Most Improved Driver Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (Sunnyvale, TX), Jan Howard (Byhalia, MS) and Cody Branchcomb (Sapulpa, OK).
The list of Rookie of the Year contenders is an impressive one with two-time Sprints on Dirt champion Dustin Daggett (Portland, MI), two-time Knoxville Raceway champion Jake Peters (Sioux Falls, SD), Tim Montgomery (Fredericktown, MO), Nick Smith (Broken Arrow, OK), defending ASCS Sooner Region champion Sean McClelland (Collinsville, OK), Jesse Hockett (Warsaw, MO), Jerrod Hull (Sikeston, MO), three-time Wissota champion Chuck Swenson (Watertown, SD), Mike Chadd (Lincoln, NE), Abe Sherwood (Drumright, OK) and 13-year-old Trey Robb (Newcastle, OK)

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 175 nights of racing in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours, including Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt.
