MECHANICSBURG, PA -- Twelve pounds. That bit of weight cost Donnie Kreitz Jr. a win Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway and handed a $5,000 payday to Lance Dewease in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 30 lap A main feature. Kreitz led all 30 circuits, but came up short of the 1375 pound All Star minimum weight at the scales, making runnerup Dewease the winner. Fifth place Brian Monteith was also light, relegating him to the back of the pack also. Dewease's win was his 23rd career All Star victory and his second in a row in All Star action at the Grove.

"Donnie (Kreitz) deserved to win this race, he had the fastest race car. We were fortunate to finish second...that last caution saved me with Fred (Rahmer), but we adjusted it there and got a shot at Donnie, but he was definitely the class of the field tonight," said a surprised Dewease in Williams Grove victory lane. Dewease's inaugural win for his new car owner, Pete Postupack, was also his 60th career win at the historic Mechanicsburg half mile.

With Monteith and Kreitz, Jr. leading the field to the green, it was Kreitz powering into the lead at the start of the race. Dewease took second with two laps in the books and Greg Hodnett got by Monteith for third on lap five. Meanwhile, back in the pack, All Star points leader Chad Kemenah was battling Lucas Wolfe for seventh. Kemenah ran into Wolfe's back bumper on lap nine, resulting in a spin for the Ohio driver, bringing out the first caution of the event

Kreitz was strong again for the restart, holding off a high groove move by Dewease before beginning to stretch his advantage. Fred Rahmer moved into contention on lap 13, passing Monteith for fourth after starting 11th. As the frontrunners Kreitz, Dewease, Hodnett and Rahmer led the pack, Monteith held off Wolfe for fifth. Lapped traffic loomed ahead of Kreitz, allowing Dewease to close, but once he was able to move past Mark Coldren, he again stretched his advantage. Rahmer, meanwhile, took over third from Hodnett on lap 21.

A three car battle for the lead began heating up with 24 laps in the books as Dewease and Rahmer pressured Kreitz. Jeff Shepard stopped his ailing machine on the frontstretch on lap 27 for the final caution of the night. This gave the leaders a clear track for the restart, with Kreitz pulling away to the apparent win over Dewease, who was able to hold off Rahmer.

Following the disqualifications, Dewease was awarded the win over Rahmer, Hodnett, Dale Blaney and Wolfe. Blaney just nipped Wolfe at the finish for fourth. Completing the top ten were Jason Johnson, Mark Smith, Mike Wagner, Todd Shaffer and Mike Erdley. Kemenah ended up 15th.

The Crown Battery heat fell to T.J. Stutts, the B&B Products heat went to Stevie Smith, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Mark Smith and the TP Wings heat fell to Jeff Shepard. Brian Leppo won the University of Northwestern Ohio B Main. Jason Johnson captured the Haulmark Dash and Chad Kemenah was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier over the 42 car field. Jesse Hockett and Barry Ruble were both flip victims in the B Main. Both were okay.
