Western Pa Speedweek Set for All Star Sprints APOLLO, PA (5/26/99) - The 7th Annual $110,000 Western Pennsylvania All Star Sprint Speedweek is set to run Thursday, June 10 through Sunday, June 13 and early entries are coming in from those teams that want to participate in the series $4,650 point fund for the top 12 after four nights of racing at four different tracks.
Kicking off the All Stars first mini-series of the summer will be Port Royal Speedway on Thursday, June 10. The Friday, June 11 event will be at Lernerville Speedway at Sarver, then it's on to Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway at Imperial for a rare sprint car show on the high banks on Saturday, June 12. The finale on Sunday, June 13 will take the tour to Tri City Speedway, just north of Franklin.
Any team meeting the All Star specs is eligible to run one or all nights, however, those teams that do not pre-enter will be charged a $15 car entry fee each night. Time trials and a complete program of qualifying heats, a dash and A, B and C features will be run each night, as car counts dictate.
In the past three attempts, Port Royal has lost its show to the weather and so the winner on Thursday will go into the books as the first Western PA Speedweek winner at the Port. In other All Star shows there, Lance Dewease has won three and Greg Hodnett two, followed by Lynn Paxton, Donnie Kreitz, Jr., Bobby Allen, Billy Pauch and Todd Shaffer.
Lernerville shows five different winners in Speedweek shows so far which include Keith Kauffman with two wins and single wins to Freddie Rahmer, Ed Lynch, Jr., Dale Blaney and Jeff Shepard.
At Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Lynch has won two and Bobby Allen, Joey Saldana and Dale Blaney have one win each. Tri City Speedway became involved in Speedweek in 1996 and Dale Blaney claimed the first two years with Jeff Shepard winning the finale last year.
