ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, 5/8/99 - Whatever was wrong with Fast Freddy Rahmer has been fixed. And it couldn’t have come at a better time. Rahmer continued his dominance over the All Star Circuit of Champions in the 30-lap A Main for super sprints at Lincoln Speedway Saturday night. Rahmer came from a straightaway behind to track down race leader Jeff Shepard on the 18th lap to win going away. "I’ll tell you what, we made some changes in this car last Saturday ...that son-of-a-gun is operating now," Rahmer exclaimed upon exiting his Chevrolet powered sprinter in victory lane. The 3.06-second win over Jeff Shepard was his second win in as many nights over the All Stars, his fifth Lincoln win of the year, his seventh overall win of ‘99, and the 79th of his career in the Pigeon Hills. "I’ll tell ya, it was a pretty good streak this week...I couldn’t be happier!" Rahmer didn’t look to be the guy to beat early on, qualifying eighth fastest and finishing fourth in his heat. And with a pair of All Stars, Frankie Kerr and Joey Saldana, on the front row, Rahmer looked to have his hands full in the feature. Saldana grabbed the lead from the outside pole in the first two turns and paced the field for the first four laps, interrupted by the race’s only caution on the second lap when Greg Hodnett came to a stop with mechanical problems on turn two. Jeff Shepard, who started third, ran runner-up in the Zemco #1 until motoring around Saldana exiting the fourth turn of lap five. Meanwhile, Rahmer advanced from eighth to move into third on the second lap restart for Hodnett. Kerr raced with Rahmer for third over the next half-dozen laps before he began to fade. When Rahmer slid under Saldana for second on lap 15, he was 2.33 seconds behind Shepard, who experienced a religious moment when he bounced off the front-stretch wall while racing through lapped traffic on lap 10. Rahmer erased the advantage in just three laps, and made his race-winning move under Shepard coming off the fourth turn of lap 18. From there, Rahmer checked out on the field. "I’m rather ashamed to admit it, but I’d rather pass him (Shepard) than any other car in Pennsylvania," said Rahmer on his race-winning pass of Shepard. "You could say that’s a little incentive." Saldana hung on for third, with Kenny Jacobs fourth and Danny Jones coming from 11th to finish fifth. Completing the top ten were Donnie Kreitz, Jr. Dale Blaney, fast timer Brad Furr, Cris Eash, and Kerr. Rahmer’s 15th career All Star win was his third All Star win in-a-row this past week and was worth $5,000. "We’ve got home field advantage," said Rahmer on the invading All Stars. "I guarantee you that if we’d tow out on the road and race with them they’d spank us." "I say it every week, there is no better place to race than Lincoln Speedway." Heats were won by Kreitz, Jesse Wentz, Cris Eash and Shepard. Keith Kauffman won the United Expressline B-Main and Rahmer won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash. Red Devil Brakes Fast time in time trials over the 47 car field was set by California racer Brad Furr with a one-lap time of 13.619 seconds. Time Trials - 1. Brad Furr, 2F, 13.619; 2.
