All Stars and PA. posse set to battle Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5.
HANOVER, PA -- The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint cars are preparing to invade the Keystone state for a pair of shows Sat. May 4 and Sunday, May 5. Saturday the traveling series invades a Central Pa. track, Lincoln Speedway located in Abbottstown near Hanover. Sunday the action moves to Western Pa., to the Tri-City Speedway near Franklin.
The All Stars have raced at Lincoln every year since 1995, with defending All Star champion Kenny Jacobs the only All Star regular to crack victory lane at the tough half-mile oval. Other drivers to win in the 15 sanctioned shows at Lincoln include Jimmy Horton, Bobby Allen, Steve Smith, Johnny Mackison Jr., Fred Rahmer, Lance Dewease and Steve Siegel.
The biggest and richest Sprint car show of the year for Tri City Speedway is scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2002 when the All Stars make their only appearance of 2002 at the one-half mile clay oval just north of Franklin.
A purse in excess of $25,000, plus the Carriage City Car Wash fast time award of $250, will not only bring in all the All Star drivers, but invasion of key Pennsylvania Posse members is assured. In addition, the Tri City regulars will see if their "home track" advantage will earn them some of the big prize money.
Five previous All Star winners at Tri City, Danny Smith, Keith Kauffman, Dale Blaney, Jeff Shepard and Greg Wilson are expected. Of those drivers, only Wilson has been a winner in the 11 All Star races run so far. True to form, the All Stars already have had nine different winners in those 11 races.
Pennsylvania Posse member, Lance Dewease, the hottest driver in the Northeast, will be here looking for his first Tri City win in the Al Hamilton #77. Not surprising, Dewease got two of his six total wins in Florida with the All Stars. Other Posse drivers off to multiple wins in Central PA expected at Tri City are Keith Kauffman and Greg Hodnett each with four.
Tri City's top ten drivers from last year include Scott Bonnell, Jarod Larson, Mark Cassella, Jason Jacoby, Brent Covell, Chad Hill, Gary Rankin, Brian Hartzell, Ed Lynch, Jr, and Shelia Rankin. Fans might also see local favorites, Jimmy Hawley, Rod George, Gary Edwards, Brent Matus, Jamie Smith, Kevin Schaeffer and many others.
The Pittsburgh Circle Track Club (PCTC) Senior Series will be on the card for that night, also.
On Sunday, May 5, the gates open at 4:00PM with time trials set for 6:00PM. The track is located just north of Franklin on Rt. 417. Phone 814-473-4038 for more information. On race day call 814-676-1681.
