PONCE INLET, FL - The All Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars are busy preparing for the invasion of the National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) onto their home turf Wednesday June 13 through Sunday June 17. The inaugural All Stars vs. NCRA Eastern Showdown will feature action at five different speedways in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The All Stars have traveled to race with the NCRA in their geographical region each of the last six seasons, and this year the tables are turned as the All Stars have invited the NCRA stars and cars to their backyard.
Action kicks off Wednesday night June 13 with the All Stars' inaugural appearance at the Fabulous Bedford Speedway in Bedford, PA. Thursday June 14th action moves to a regular stop on the All Star tour, the Lincoln Speedway in Hanover, Pa. Friday night June 15, action returns to the Cannonball Speedway in Morristown, OH (near St. Clairsville) for the first time since 1980. Saturday's action pays $7,000 to win for the annual "Night the Stars Come Out" at K-C Raceway in Alma near Chillicothe. This show will be a doubleheader with the STARS late model series. Sunday's finale moves to Tri-City Speedway near Franklin, Pa., which has hosted the All Stars Western Pa. Speedweek finale over the past several seasons.
In the past the All Stars have invaded NCRA's home turf for the annual Thunder through the Plains Tour. This mini-series has seen 30 events contested throughout Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska with 14 different feature winners. On the NCRA side, three drivers have amassed ten Thunder wins with Gary Wright winning seven times, Mike Goodman twice and Donnie Crawford once. The other 20 shows list eleven All Star drivers capturing first place money.
Looking back at NCRA action from last year, their season ended up with Gary Wright winning his eighth consecutive championship. The Hooks, Texas driver prevailed in the final points over Aaron Berryhill (Broken Arrow, OK), Mike Goodman (Tulsa, OK), Travis Rilat (now an All Star regular), Nick Haygood (Aurora, CO), Earnest Jennings (Norman, OK), Michael Lambert (Owasso, OK), Donnie Crawford (Tulsa), Dan Oswalt (Iola, KS0 and Steve King (Jetmore, KS). All Star regular Jason Johnson finished 13th in the NCRA points last season also.
The All Stars and NCRA will race together seven more times this season. In July, the 1200 pound Nationals at Knoxville (IA) Raceway will see both series compete on the 27th and 28th, and this year's Thunder Through the Plains tour runs August 13-18 at five different speedways.
Each racing event will feature a full program of time trials, heat races, the Haulmark Dash and consolation events.
