YELMER BUURMAN CONFIRMED FOR PSV EINDHOVEN ENTRY

PSV Eindhoven fans will have a home-town hero to cheer for in Superleague Formula with Dutch racer Yelmer Buurman selected to drive the car in the inaugural championship. Buurman has already climbed behind the wheel of the PSV entry in pre-season testing in Barcelona and Vallelunga. The PSV Eindhoven car will be run by Belgian squad Azerti - run by former GT racer, Wim Coekelbergs. Azerti's Superleague Formula efforts will also include the United Arab Emirates club, Al Ain. 21-year-old Buurman began his career in the German-based Formula Konig series in 2002 and has risen through the ranks in Formula Renault, Formula Three, World Series by Renault and GP2. A regular campaigner in the UK, Buurman finished fourth in the 2006 British Formula 3 championship behind winner, Mike Conway. "I think it is going to be a really interesting series - especially with the reverse grid. Other series have reversed the top six or the top eight, but never the entire field. That will be a big challenge," Buurman said. "There will obviously be a lot of pressure - suddenly every PSV fan will be a supporter of mine so I have a very big responsibility."

The club's Superleague Formula car was on display outside the stadium and Buurman was presented to the fans along with the 2008/09 footballers. More than 150,000 football fans were on hand to hear Buurman interviewed on the pitch and also enjoy the "music" of the 750 horsepower, V12 powered Superleague Formula machine. Buurman was also presented with a PSV Eindhoven shirt during a press conference prior to the fan day.
