FRENCH DUO CONFIRMED ON SUPERLEAGUE FORMULA BY SONANGOL GRID

24/03/10 - French drivers Tristan Gommendy and Julien Jousse will join countryman Franck Montagny on the Superleague Formula by Sonangol grid this season.

Gommendy, who has raced in the football-themed series since its first season in 2008, has transferred from Portuguese club FC Porto to Turkish giants Galatasaray. The 31-year-old, who has three Superleague Formula wins under his belt in Vallelunga and Jerez in 2008 and Donington in 2009, extends the French influence at the 17-times Turkish Super League champions, whose car is run by the Roullion-based Barazi-Epsilon.

Barazi-Epsilon will also run Montagny, who was announced at Superleague Formula newcomers Bordeaux last week.

Tristan Gommendy: "I am extremely happy to be racing in Superleague Formula again this season and very pleased to be team mates with Franck Montagny at Barazi-Epsilon.

"To have two drivers of such a high level in the same team will help us to be competitive, as the standard is looking even harder than during the previous years. Without any doubt, Superleague Formula will be one of the most difficult championships in Europe to win this season.

"I would like to thank Michel Lecomte's team, which has made a lot of effort to make this new adventure possible. Together, our objective will be to secure a double in the championship by bringing the most possible number of wins and podiums to Galatasaray."

Michel Lecomte, Team Manager Team Barazi Epsilon: "To work together was a joint objective. Tristan is a driver that I have followed for many years. He is a very talented guy with a lot of experience who has won many races in many championships. I am convinced that he will integrate very quickly into our team and with Franck Montagny and that they will constitute one of the most competitive teams in the championship."

Jousse, meanwhile, has been re-signed by Italian outfit AS Roma, whose car will be run by DeVillota Motorsport, after making an impressive debut for the Serie A club in Superleague Formula last season, finishing on the podium on his debt at Monza.

The 24-year-old becomes the latest Frenchman to join the Giallorossi, with Philippe Mexes, Ricardo Faty and Jeremy Menez all currently starring on the pitch for the three times Serie A champions and nine-time Italian Cup winners.

Julien Jousse: "I had the opportunity to race twice in Superleague Formula at the end of last year and to discover the car as well as the friendly atmosphere during race meetings. It is very different to the junior formulae which are more orientated towards F1. The prize bonus when you finish strongly can also allow a driver to become professional.

"I am delighted to be able to race against ex-Formula 1 drivers, the more the better as far as I am concerned. The car is fantastic to drive, as it is very powerful and I hope to continue from where I left off last year.

"I trust the DeVillota team who begin the season with the same objectives as me - to grow and win together with the aim of being title contenders at the end of the year. I would also like to thank Franck Tine and Lapsportmanagement, without whom the partnership with the DeVillota team would not have been possible."

Robin Webb, Competition Director of Superleague Formula by Sonangol: "Tristan Gommendy was one of the first to join Superleague Formula and I am delighted to see that he has stayed faithful to us.

"The championship needs drivers of his talent and experience. Tristan has won three races in the colours of FC Porto and I hope he follows this trend with Galatasaray.

"Superleague Formula also attracts young drivers who are extremely promising and on the up. I am proud to illustrate this with the arrival of Julien Jousse, who has been seduced by the Superleague Formula concept after his participation at the last two rounds of last season. With a club like AS Roma to support him, he will have access to the equipment to make him one of the main contenders in 2010."

This season the Superleague Formula by Sonangol calendar includes 12 rounds, including 11 in Europe, and will start on 3/4 April at Silverstone (UK).

In other news, a number of changes have been made to this season's calendar. As announced at the Assen media day on Monday, Oschersleben has been dropped from the schedule in favour of Los Arcos in Spain (Oct 23/24), Adria becomes Italy's round in favour of Monza (Sept 4/5) while Portimao comes in for Estoril as Portugal's destination (Sept 18/19).
