FC Midtjylland targeting Jyllands Ringen lap record in Superleague Formula by Sonangol display

FC Midtjylland's Superleague Formula by Sonangol driver Kasper Andersen is eyeing a new lap record when he demonstrates the club's car at the GP Denmark on 23 August at the Jyllands Ringen.

The event is the biggest of its kind in Denmark and will host the sixth round of the Danish Touring Car Championship. Andersen will perform exhibition laps in the team's Superleague Formula by Sonangol car in an attempt to break the circuit's lap record.

"It will depend on the weather of course but we will do our best," said Andersen. "I've won quite a few races in Formula Renault at the Jyllands Ringen back in 2004 but I've no idea what it will be like to drive the Superleague Formula car there as it has 750bhp instead of 200bhp.

"It's quite a small circuit and narrow in places, but there is one pretty fast corner coming onto the straight. Our lap times in Formula Renault were around the one minute six seconds mark, so perhaps we can break the sixty seconds barrier!"

The Jyllands Ringen, Denmark's most famous race track, is situated just 40km from FC Midtjylland's home ground in Herning. The club will display their car outside the MCH Arena stadium before their home game with reigning Danish Superliga champions FC Copenhagen on Saturday 22 August and the car will also be on show in Silkeborg, the home town of Andersen, on Friday.

"It's a great opportunity to show the car to our fans and sponsors," said FC Midtjylland Project Chief Karl-age Jensen. "In both locations we'll be starting up the engine to let them hear that beautiful V12 motor! At the GP Denmark there will be a crowd of between 10,000-15,000 spectators and it gives FC Midtjylland supporters and Danish motorsport fans a rare chance to see the Superleague Formula car in action, live."

The next round of Superleague Formula by Sonangol takes place at Estoril, Portugal on 5-6 September.
