January 2, 2004 - Christchurch, New Zealand - D'Agostino has successful first test in New Zealand
Young American Joe D'Agostino recently completed a very promising first series of test sessions in preparation for the forthcoming six-race Talley's New Zealand International Formula Ford Championship.
D'Agostino and Team USA teammates, Charlie Kimball and Ryan Millen, put the trio of Team USA Scholarship-entered Stealth/Van Diemens through their paces at Ruapuna Park Raceway and left local team owner John Crawford astounded by their speed and attitude. "I'm really impressed -- extremely impressed," declared Crawford, "The boys settled in very quickly and were on the pace right away. They'll be a force to be reckoned with, that's for sure."
On the first day of testing in very warm weather and far from ideal track conditions, D'Agostino turned the fastest lap of the day at 1m30.2s, an average speed of 85.31 mph, which is within a half-second of the lap record for the 2.14-mile (3.44 kms) track. The following day of testing had D'Agostino unofficially breaking the Formula Ford track record with a lap of 1m 29.88s.
"It was a really good first few days of testing," said D'Agostino. "The team did a good job and it was great to start working with our engineer, Andy Neale. We all got along very well and were able to compare data and learn from each other. I have only been here a few days and have already learned a great deal, I can not wait for our first race!"
The first race meeting of the Talley's New Zealand International Formula Ford Championship will be held on January 9-11 at Levels Raceway in Timaru, New Zealand.
D'Agostino wishes to thank all of his sponsors, Team USA Scholarship, Arai, Sparco, Corsa, Kart Mini, MG Tires, Racer Magazine, Dodge, Michelin, Skip Barber Racing School and all of his personal sponsors.
