ATECH GRAND PRIX SECOND IN SUPERLEAGUE FORMULA OPENER

The Atech Grand Prix-managed AC Milan car of Yelmer Buurman came home second in the opening round of the Superleague Formula by Sonangol at Silverstone on Sunday. The flying Dutchman was denied the chance of a repeat in race two however when the clutch bleed hose burst ending his race.

There was frustration also for reigning champions Liverpool FC as James Walker spun out of third place in the opening round which ended his race. The Jerseyman lined up on pole position for the reversed grid- race two but was forced to retire while lying second with a loss of drive following the mandatory pit stop.

The weekend had started well for the Silverstone-based team with both cars easily qualifying through to the quarter finals on Saturday. In the semi finals the Liverpool FC car went head-to-head with FC Porto, the English club narrowly missing out on a potential front row start, eventually lining up third.

Despite the set-back on its home track, the David Hayle-led team, which clinched the title last season for Liverpool with Adrian Valles, remains positive and confident ahead of the next rounds of the championship, at Assen next month.

"It was a disappointing end to the weekend after such a positive start," said David Hayle. "Both James and Yelmer are very quick and able drivers and they showed their pace through practice and qualifying and into the races. Unfortunately apart from Yelmer's second place the results were not there today and we must look to the next rounds to get our championship bid back on track."
