TORRANCE, Calif. (Sept. 9, 2003) - With four of the season's six desert races complete, there are 20 drivers still eligible for the Toyota Milestone Award and 10 eligible for the Toyota True Grit Award heading into this weekend's SCORE Las Vegas PRIMM 300, Sept. 12-14, in Primm, Nev. As it has for the last 17 years, Toyota will present the prestigious awards to the off-road racers who finish every mile of every race in the 2003 SCORE International Off-Road Racing Series.
Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to all SCORE off-road competitors in the professional four-wheel classes who complete every required mile in the six-race desert series. Ten Milestone Award contenders were eliminated in Henderson, and of the 133 competitors who started the first race in Laughlin, only 20 are still in the hunt this weekend. In addition to finishing the Las Vegas Primm 300, each competitor must also complete the grueling Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 (Nov. 20-23) if they are to take home one of the coveted awards.
Non-factory-backed competitors in classes 1/2-1600, 5, 10 and SCORE Lites who complete every required mile in the six-race series - and have the largest cumulative point total in each class - split the $12,000 Toyota True Grit Award prize fund. Ten True Grit competitors completed the Henderson Terrible 250 and remain eligible for the award.
The Toyota True Grit and Toyota Milestone Awards will be presented at the year-end SCORE awards banquet in December.
The following off-road racers remain eligible for the 2003 Toyota Milestone Award (TG - denotes classes also eligible for the Toyota True Grit Award):
