Craig Stanton, Nathan Swartzbaugh and North-South Racing to Tackle 2007 Baja 500
Brea, CA -- July 28, 2006 -- North-South Racing, a new professional motorsports team headquartered in Brea, CA, today announced its first racing initiative, the running of the 2007 Baja 500, with drivers Nathan Swartzbaugh and Craig Stanton. The duo will race a specially prepared Alpha Performance Technologies Class One off-road car run by esteemed crew chief and fabricator Johnny Kaiser.
The 2007 race will be Nathan Swartzbaugh's first running at Baja. Having ridden motorcycles and been part of the off-road world since age three, Nathan has raced in amateur Supercross events and multiple trials bike riding contests. Contesting the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge in a 997 Porsche Cup car, Nathan has had a terrific season to date and currently sits 2nd in the driver's championship. Running the Baja 500 is the first in a long line of professional driving goals that Nathan has set out for himself. "I'm beyond thrilled to know that we'll run at Baja next year," said Swartzbaugh.
"It'll be one more experience to add to my repertoire, and it'll definitely help hone my overall racing skills. It's my long-term goal to be a successful, multitalented professional racing driver, and with this team, business and co-driver behind me, I feel that I'm well prepared for this challenge."
Craig Stanton, 2005 Grand American Rolex GT drivers champion and sportscar stalwart, will return to Baja for the second time in his career in 2007. In 2000, Stanton ran the Baja 2000 race, adding to his extensive experience in trophy trucks and off-road racing. As a professional athlete, Stanton will draw on his deep training base and endurance tactics honed through years of long-distance auto, mountain bike, adventure team and running races to get him through the grueling desert contest. "I'm very excited to team up with a driver like Nathan and the folks at North-South Racing," he said. "Since we all got involved together, I've been treated like family, and I'm confident that I can use my experience in life, in training and in racing to make this a very successful program for the team, for Nathan, and for myself."
North-South Racing, a newly formed racing organization, is headquartered in Brea, CA, and focuses on top-level professional sportscar and off-road racing. As the racing arm of North-South Machinery, a distributor of exotic non-traditional machining equipment, the team is tasked with growing regional sales of Mitsubishi Electrical discharge machines, ANCA tool and cutter grinders, Hurco CNC, and OMAX waterjet machines, among others, including rapid prototyping machines. North-South Machinery President Jim Swartzbaugh believes that leveraging his company's 20 years' experience in machinery distribution against the atmosphere of racing is a recipe for success.
"North-South Machinery has been in business for over 20 years working within the automotive, medical, aerospace, electronics and manufacturing industries to name a few. And from the beginning, our philosophy has been to create partnerships and not just customers as we build our business relationships. When you love the business you are in and enjoy seeing your business partners succeed, it can't help but spill over into other areas of your life. That passionate approach has allowed us to mix business and pleasure with our friends and business partners, especially since most are driven by the desire to compete and to win; and racing clearly gives you the opportunity to do both. Ultimately, life is not what you have done to others but rather what you have done for others. North-South Racing has allowed us to mix these various aspects of our life and have a heck of a great time while doing it."
