Sal Fish, Boss and dedicated Toiler of the SCORE

Dear Friends and Partners,

The SCORE International stands for the best off-road races of the world. No other desert race series can match the big starter fields and gripping action. No other series enjoys as much popularity with the fans and receives such a huge media following. And this for many years.

The man behind this success is Sal Fish. As president and CEO of the SCORE International, Sal rules the strategies of our motorsport politics. But this doesn't mean he sits unreachable in an ivory tower in a Los Angeles penthouse office. Sal is always reachable for everyone involved in the SCORE International - from team bosses to media, fans, policemen, all personell at the the races, through to the farmers who allow the route to run over their land. He makes decisions quickly and stands by his word. Sal also has the last say when it comes to regulations. He ensures that everyone has a chance to compete and that they have equal chances. If something needs to be done, he makes sure its done immediately and effectively - a rarity in racing today.

Sal Fish: has an ear for everybody

Sal Fish is now 69 years old - and is an extremely successful businessman. Still, prior to every race he travels umpteen times to Mexico, personally determines the route, talks to everybody involved - always on the look-out for a better route, for the optimum safety and for the most exciting and demanding challenges for competitors. And should one of the locals need help, Sal doesn't hesitate and organises a collection amongst the racers.

When the dust settles after the races and the front runners are al ready partying, Sal is still out there waiting at the finish line until the last competitor made it home just inside the time limit to say: "Congratulations, and well done!" In short, amongst all the professionalism, Sal gives the SCORE International a human aspect.

Communication made easy: face to face with the boss

His success and the success of the SCORE International have withstood the test of time. In 1973, Sal Fish joined SCORE and immediately began to turn desert racing into a highly professional sport. In 1985 he created unity in off-road sport when he initiated a merger between SCORE and the High Desert Racing Association (HDRA). In 1986 he bought SCORE with Ted Johnson, and then the HDRA in 1993.

Sal is not a friend of doing things complicated. He much prefers simple and transparent solutions. As the son of Italian parents, he already showed his initiative at a young age. He decided that his birth name, Salvatore Pesce, was too complicated for America - and changed it to Sal Fish. The first step of a classic American self-made career was done ...

Tecate Baja 1000: Drawing of start positions at the Off Road Warehouse

The draw for starting positions is a huge spectacle even before the SCORE International races take off. This year we are lucky that the draw for the Tecate Baja 1000 will take place at the premises of one of our sponsoring partners, the Off Road Warehouse in Temecula, Cal. On 11 October we will know who starts first and who will eat dust.

I'll be back on 15 October to let you know where our two All German Motorsports Buggys are in the starting order.

Until then, best regards,
